A Christmas Carol
Radio Show Broadcast

Sunday, December 24, 2017 through Sunday, December 25, 2016

Before the internet there was television. Before television there was radio. And before that there was Charles Dickens and his timeless seasonal classic, A Christmas Carol. Produced by Monroe Arts Center in partnership with Monroe Theatre Guild, this recreation of the age of radio drama once again comes to life during the holiday season. Monroe Arts Center’s first radio show which originally aired December 2010, captures the sounds of old-time radio theater in the tale of tight-fisted old Ebenezer Scrooge. Haunted by a trio of ghosts, Scrooge is shown the wretchedness of his heart-- and his possible future should he refuse to repent his wicked ways. Follow Scrooge on his magical journey to learn the true meaning of Christmas.

Written and directed by Richard Hilger, a theater professional and former principal at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, and with John Baumann in the role of Scrooge, this audio presentation features local actors (cast list) playing multiple characters with ingenious and dramatic sound effects. Experience the magic and nostalgia of radio and create a new holiday memory. This delightful take on the holiday classic will leave no one saying, “Bah, Humbug!”
