Sometimes when people think of dramatic nature photography, they envision scenes from the west—towering mountains, desert formations, or seascapes.
Though these landscapes certainly inspire great images, the upper Great Lakes region are also surrounded by majestic images of nature.
With his camera lens, Oregon, Wisconsin photographer Dave Miess captures the beauty of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota. His images reveal this part of the world in a unique way—both the sublime and the grand.
Miess acknowledges, "Nature moves me. To be standing on the edge of Lake Superior watching the sun rise, or to be photographing a new spring flower provides me with incredible joy."
Keeping his post-capture enhancements of images to a bare minimum, he relies on the camera and his expertise as a photographic artist to make the images you see in print.
That, combined with the power of the "digital darkroom," his photographs possess amazing quality and clarity, giving viewers a glimpse into that moment when he tripped the shutter.
